The count down is on! Only days until Canada Day! Canada Day is my family’s favourite statutory weekend. Not only does it signal the official start of summer, hot weather and no school, but it is the Van Huss’ traditional backyard camp out! This tradition began when my boys were little. Daddy wanted to the boys camping, but Mommy wasn’t so sure they would last all night in a tent. We compromised with the backyard camp out and it has been a tradition ever since. This is no boring camp out! We go all out with the intent to make the camp out as close to real camping as possible, this includes BBQ hamburgers outside, the official pitching of the tent, a toasty campfire and of course, S’MORES!
The first step to our backyard camp out is a trip to Loblaws to gather the appropriate supplies for the weekend.
Not only does Loblaws have isles and isle of delicious food and the much needed supplies for the long weekend, but it is also offers a new rewards program called PC Plus. This program allows you to shop for the groceries and products that you would normally buy and earn points which can be redeemed as dollars off your grocery bill in the future! The neat part about the program is that send you offers and meal ideas based on what you buy and what’s on sale! For every 1000 points is equivalent to $1 and once you accumulate 20,000 points, you can redeem $20 off your grocery bill! That is a great savings for a Mom on a budget! Plus I’m buying things I would normally buy! How cool is that?
There are three ways you can set up your PC Plus reward program; you can use your existing card, either PC Financial debit or credit card, download the PC Plus app on your smartphone or pick up a free PC Plus card in-store and activate it online at pcplus.ca.
It was easy and quick to do that I was able to set up my PC Plus card on my smart phone on the way to Loblaws. Within minutes of applying, I was sent a confirmation email and enjoying all the valuable savings the PC Plus program has to offer!
I don’t shop at Loblaws often, due to its location, but when I do shop there I love the products and great deals that I find! The store is always clean, the staff are always helpful and eager to help and there are so many unique products and amazing sales. Today was no exception. It was great to see the PC Plus program advertized all over the store. Finding products that offered bonus points were fun to search for and easy to spot.
One thing I was happy to notice when searching for our holiday supplies was their newly added Gluten free product! Having celiac disease, it is always a challenge to find gluten free festive food comes to BBQs, parties and special occasions. Often times I have to go to a specialty bakery or specific stores to find the product that I can safely eat. Its nice to know that Loblaws has my back and I can get gluten free products at the same store I purchase all of my other favourite groceries!
After I drooled over the gluten free bakery items, grabbed some hamburger buns for our BBQ, and picked up some festive Canada cookies, we were on the hunt for the special treat of the season; S’MORES! PC has an amazing S’MORES kit that contains the graham crackers, marshmallows and chocolate in one box! All that is needed to perfect this special treat is a few hungry children and a open flame!
DS7 and DS5 were so excited to see the PC S’MORES kit that we decided to have a test run a few days early! And the results? They were an absolute hit, even DH got in on the action!
DD1, DH and I had so much fun walking around the store gathering the groceries for our Canada Day camp out. We got everything we wanted and some gluten free extras for Mommy too! You can find the rest of the pictures from our Loblaws Shopping trip in this G+ photo album. This long weekend stock up on all the essentials and earn bonus PC Plus reward points at your local Loblaws and you won’t be disappointed!
From my family to yours,
have a safe
happy Canada Day weekend!
