I love school pick up time. My DD and I walk to the bus stop near our house and wait anxiously for the boys to get off. The third bus to drive by is ours! My DD sequels with delight when the bus stops in front of us and we both anxiously wait for the boys to get off. She is excited to see her brothers and I’m excited to see the boys and hear what they learned that day at school. I remember my DS5’s first day of Junior Kindergarten. I was very nervous about sending him to school on the bus. Daddy and I offered to drive him, but he wanted to be a big boy and go to school on the bus like his big brother. When he got home from school that day, I learned a horrifying fact. DS5 got off the bus at the WRONG SCHOOL that morning! There are two french immersion schools in our town and unfortunately our bus driver picks ups all french immersion kids in our area. My DS5 was so excited about his first day of school that he got off the bus at the first school they came to. The situation was handled very well! DS5 was immediately taken to the office by a teacher when she noticed he didn’t belong at that school and the bus returned to take him to the right school.
From that day, I have worried how to teach my sons’ what to do if they got off at the wrong stop. We tried memorizing our phone number and address, but I worry that in the stress of the situation they might not be able to recall it. I tried to place a ‘reminder card’ in their backpack, but on more than one occasion I have found the card absentmindedly cast aside. Writing my contact information in black marker across the back of their backpack has crossed my mind, but I don’t want any private information about myself or my children on display. As a result, I have been on the hunt for a product that will keep my contact information in a secure location that my children can access but not remove it.
I finally found it! Let me introduce you to
SwaggerTag was created by a Toronto Mom, Karen Walker, after her search for a child appropriate identification tag failed. She wanted a tag that could be personalized and easily identified by her children but also provide useful information if her kid’s misplaced or lost their belongings. She need a tag that withstand the day to day wear and tear that children place things. When she didn’t find what she was looking for, Karen took to the drawing board and designed her own. SwaggerTag were born! She launched the idea in February 2011 at the American International Toy Fair in NYC and it was an immediate success!
SwaggerTag are plastic identification tags that can be securely attached to backpacks, bags and other belongs to allow them to be easily identified and aid in returning it if it is lost. They are water, weather and impact resistant. They are available in six distinctive colours: Gekco Green, Dolphin Blue, Hot Pink, Mustang Purple, Dragon Red and Spider Grey so that you can personalize your SwaggerTag to fit your personality and style!
When I first heard of SwaggerTag I was taken back to the moment I found out my son had been dropped off at the wrong school and saw SwaggerTag as a solution. What if he had gotten off at the wrong bus stop on the way home? He wouldn’t have had a teacher to help guide him to the right location. Instead he would be surround by strangers. If he had a SwaggerTag g attached to his backpack, he could have easily pointed out my contact information to another adult who could help return him to me.
My first opinion of the SwaggerTag was that it was brilliant. I loved the bright colours and way the SwaggerTag conceals your information on the inside of the tag. With children, its not always advisable to have personal information showing at all times. The ability to personalize your SwaggerTag with a picture of logo of your choice is very clever and easy to do! All you have to do is choose a picture that you want on the tag, use the guide provided with the kit to cut out the exact size you need, insert and attach to your bag! If you choose to change the picture later on or use the tag for a different purpose, replacement kits are available!
For my tags, I choose to put pictures of my children’s face on their tags. This allows my boys to easily pick out their bags even if there are several with the same pattern on it. I’m looking forward to using it with my daughter DD1 when she attends preschool in the fall. Not knowing her letters, she wouldn’t be able to find her backpack if her name was on it. With the SwaggerTag , she can look for her picture and pick out her belongings herself. I got one for myself that has the 1heart1family logo on it! I love that I can display and advertise my blog while in public!
I was very impressed with the quality of the SwaggerTag . They are made out of a strong, durable food grade plastic that doesn’t contain BPA or other dangerous paints or chemicals. This is an important characteristic that I look for when choosing product that my children will be using on a daily basis as thievery always ends up in their mouth. It secures to personal belongings with a strong cable tie. Although it is a semi permanent solution, I think it is very important for identification tags because it means that it won’t fall off or will not be easily removed. I mean what is the point of an identification tag if it doesn’t stay on the belong?
